Questions, answered
How do cat years work?
Cats mature fast, then slow down: the first cat year counts as about 15 human years, the second adds 9, and every year after adds about 4. An indoor cat's second decade is roughly a human's 70s and 80s.
Is one dog year really seven human years?
No — that's a myth. Dogs mature much faster early on: the first year counts ~15 human years. After that, bigger dogs age faster than small ones, which is why our calculator asks for your dog's size.
When is my pet a senior?
Cats are usually considered senior around 11. For dogs it depends on size: small dogs around 11, medium around 9, and large breeds as early as 7. Regular vet checks matter more as they reach these ages.
